Kylee is growing up

It must be time for a new picture of Kylee--you aren't dreaming, when I adopted Kylee, her name was Rylee. However, I wanted her to have a name I gave her, but I didn't want to confuse her, so Kylee it is. She's only 8 months old, but in this picture she definitely doesn't look like a puppy anymore, does she?

Puppy school was less than productive. It was held in a big indoor training center during the hottest weather we had this summer (and, for Eastern Washington, it wasn't much)--no A/C, not even a window open. The first night the instructor had a big ceiling mounted fan on, but she apparently had a hard time hearing so didn't ever have it on again. Plus, there was a very annoying woman and her distracting son. Who was more distracted, me or Kylee, is up for debate.

Anyway, we didn't finish the class for those reasons. I continue to work with her, mostly on "come" and "stay," but when she gets her head down she doesn't hear a thing. The deer have come back from their summer grounds, wherever that is, and are a constant annoyance (to me) and distraction (to Kylee and Lucy). So, except during the middle of the day when she can run loose, she is tethered. Even the middle of the day is no guarantee that no deer will show up and Kylee will take off. Fortunately, she is chipped and wears ID, but that's no guarantee against vehicles, and, as the crow flies, it's about 500 yards to a very busy road. Bought her an underground fence, but have to purchase the wire for it. Walked off her "run" area last night, 1,500 feet. Looks like she's going to get a LOT smaller area to run in, since that's something around $500 for wire! And who's to say she won't run right through it...we'll see.
