Up on the roof, again

Ah-h-h, another year has gone by, so it must be time for another on-the-roof photo. I was shoveling 3 feet of snow because I've got some serious ice dams going on, and with wet snow forecast, I needed to get some snow off while it was still light and loose, for the most part.

This guy had been hanging around today but seemed intrigued by me looking down on him. He wanted to get to the thistle feeder SO badly, but he would would come within feet of it and back off. He did this for awhile, long enough for one of my big toes to start freezing from standing in one spot gawking at him. A country coworkers tells me the bucks are dangerous now as they are in rut. Good to know.

Gorgeous Sunset

After snowing all day [again!], the sky cleared a bit and produced this gorgeous sunset!

Snow-opolis

While it may not look like it, that's 24" of snow...all having fallen in 36 hours! The day is gorgeous--for now, ahead of another front that is coming through. The temp has dropped to single digits and so being outdoors is not recommended.

I'd planned to hop up on the roof to clear snow around the vents, but I was just out and I'm having second thoughts. But, I either need to do it now while the sun is out or not at all, otherwise it'll just be too darn cold! I was looking at roof rakes on the Internet last night -- I had researched last year before I cleared my whole roof with a shovel -- and I really like this one. It's kinda pricey though. Amazon has a reasonable facsimile.

I paid $125 yesterday to clear those 24" of snow from the driveway. I used the same guy last year, also calling for a plow during a record snowfall. And even my fading memory is quite sure I didn't pay $125! Unfortunately, I must have paid cash because I can't find a check. They kind of have you at a disadvantage--supply and demand.

House Finch on a Limb

My 4-headed amaryllis--gorgeous!!!!!
